As I mentioned in my previous posts on Sardinia we didn’t go out to eat much. There just really wasn’t anywhere. I was worried at first but it turned out great — see my post on Sardinian food!

What we did do was get two different kinds of take-out focaccia from two different delicatessens. By the way, I am calling the dish on the left also focaccia – if someone knows better what is should be called please(!) let me know in the comments!

But this post is about going out to eat!

We went to a small restaurant in Chia about a 10 min drive from Eden Rock where our airbnb was located. Chia is a more touristy town (still not very touristy at all) with perhaps 4-5? restaurants. We travelled to Sardinia in late October, so not the height of tourist season, and they weren’t even open during the week. However, on the weekend they were open!

The one we went to was called — Chia restaurant – well actually “Chia ristorante.” It has about 20-25 tables and doesn’t have a website.

We went on Sunday afternoon and it was about half full. About 4-5 two-tops (tables of two) and two tables of large families each with 10-15 people! It felt very italian with the Sunday lunch gathering of families.

We had been told by friends that a whole roasted pig was a Sardinian specialty – but this was more a seafood place – so luckily no roasted pig (since we don’t eat meat).

We therefore obviously chose seafood dishes, the clam/seafood pasta specialty and a whole grilled fish (I forget which kind!) as well as a selection of appetizers. The appetizers in order on the plate were 1. octopus with potato 2. squid with carrot and 3. marinated tuna with herbs. All were yummy. The pasta was good if a bit salty for me! And – unfortunately – I didn’t get a picture of the fish!

We were so full we didn’t stay to have dessert, but we also knew we had those amazing Sardinian cookies at home waiting for us.
